How we handle your information

In short: we collect what we need to run our programmes and stay in touch with you, we keep it to ourselves, and you can ask us to change or delete it at any time.

Who we are

ImanFirst is a community organisation based at 198 Caledonian Road, London N1 0SQ. We are the data controller for the information described here — meaning we decide what is collected and why. You can reach us at info@imanfirst.com or through our contact page.

What we collect

Only what the form you fill in asks for. Nothing is gathered in the background.

If you become a member

Your name, email address, phone number, postal address and postcode, date of birth, occupation, the interests you tell us about, and how you would prefer we contact you.

If you offer to volunteer

The same details as above, plus your skills, availability, the areas you would like to help with, any relevant experience, and an emergency contact name and phone number.

If you send us a message

Your name, email address, phone number if you give one, and the message itself.

If you donate

Your name, email address, phone number if you give one, the amount, and any message you attach. You can choose to donate anonymously. We never see or store your card details — those go directly to Stripe, our payment provider.

Why we collect it

To run our membership and programmes, and to contact you about them when we need to. That is the whole purpose.

We do not sell your information, we do not share it with other organisations for their own purposes, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Being a member says something about your beliefs

We are a faith-based organisation, so the fact that you are a member implies something about your religious beliefs. UK data protection law treats that as a specially protected category of information, and we treat it accordingly: it stays within ImanFirst, and access is limited to the people who need it to do their job.

Who else touches it

We use a small number of service providers to run the website. They process information on our instructions only, and cannot use it for their own purposes:

  • Google (Firebase) stores our database and any images we upload.
  • Vercel hosts the website and serves these pages.
  • Stripe handles donation payments, including card details, which never reach us.

These providers may store data outside the UK. Where they do, they are required to protect it to UK standards.

How long we keep it

We keep member and volunteer records for as long as you are involved with us, and for a period afterwards in case you return or we need to answer a question about our records. Messages sent through the contact form are kept while we deal with your enquiry. Donation records are kept longer, because we are required to keep financial records.

If you would like your information removed sooner, just ask.

What you can ask us to do

You have the right to ask us to:

  • Show you what information we hold about you
  • Correct anything that is wrong or out of date
  • Delete your information
  • Stop using it, or limit how we use it
  • Send you a copy in a portable format

Email info@imanfirst.com and we will respond within one month. There is no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

Cookies

This website does not use tracking or advertising cookies. If you sign in to the admin area, we store a session cookie so you stay signed in — that is only for staff, and it is removed when you sign out.

If anything here is unclear, please get in touch — we would rather explain it than have you wondering.
